Is it possible for you to create a formula at crystal reports like :

Trim({?Parameter)&{TotalCost}

For display purpose you will use the above formula and for any calculations you will have to use only {TotalCost} field.

That will resolve the issue.  It prints whatever currency symbol we have in parameter along with your TotalCost field.
