Re: What is a hierarchy in SAP BW

Hi Al,

 

If you know Hierarchy Structure(Hier Str) how it look like then that is the benefit form it.

 

Normally thru flat reports we can see flat out only. When we want data particular division/channel/etc.. wise with structural format then we can use hierarchy.

 

For example.

 

in project we have one project manager, under him N(3) of Team Leads. Under each team lead N(8) of consultants of respective applications. so here we have 3 levels.

If you want see the employee data who is under Project manager X. if we defined a hier str, by expanding Project manager node we can who are under him.

 

Without hierarchy str you can't see such requirement at bex level.

Like that way we can see any data at particular level/node wise and we can restrict data as per the user. who can see which level of data only.

 

Just implement hierarchy on your sandbox. load master data and transaction data respectively.

Develop bex  report with hierarchy(rows) and without hierarchy, see the differ.

You can observe how the out put look like. play all hierarchy object properties.
