SMP Capabilities with Non-SAP Backends

Good day and all the best for 2014!

We are currently investigating the various capabilities that SMP offers regarding non-SAP backends such as JD Edwards, Maximo, Oracle and other vendors.

At this time we have found little on the topic and wanted to know if through your experience within the community you have either integrated any of these with SMP or have knowledge of how we should approach these. Here are some of our questions regarding these:

  • What are some of the code authoring tools available with the platform. IDE's etc?
  • What source control options are provisioned with the platform, if any?
  • What quality and testing tools are provided with the platform, if any?
  • What configuration management does the platform support or allow?
  • Are there SDK's or delivered libraries that ship with SMP for non-SAP backends?
  • Does the platform facilitate MDM capabilities or integrate into non-SAP MDMs?
  • Are there any case examples where SMP is being used with non-SAP backends?
  • How well does the SMP facilitate code migration to and from the platform with non-SAP platforms? Has anyone gone through this excercise?
  • In relation to the cloud offering - does the SMP Cloud offering allow us to install and host cloud offerings or is it exclusively a service offered by SAP?
  • Does the SMP require other SAP components such as Solman to be deployed?

Many thanks.

Doug.
