You're absolutely right, and I would gladly use the sap.m library when it's fully operational in Design Studio.
Hopefully, with DS 1.4 apps integrated in Fiori sFin apps, we will have the sap.m library working for our extensions next month.
Until then, I'd rather not use it than implementing the click events myself. Just my humble opinion though! Image may be NSFW.
